Lithium compound (I) comprises a spinel type crystalline phase, a cubic crystalline phase and a rhombohedral crystalline phase. Composed (I) comprises a spinel type crystalline phase of formula Li aNi(II) 0.5-xMn(III) 2xMn(IV) 1.5x-yM yO 4, a cubic crystalline phase of formula Li 1-tNi 1+tO and a rhombohedral crystalline phase of formula Li 1-zNi 1+zO 2. M : Ti and/or Al; a : greater than 0.8 to less than 1.3, preferably 1; x, y : greater than 0 to =0.15, preferably x is greater than 0 to =0.1, preferably x is 0 and y is less than 0.09; and t, z : >=0 to =1. Independent claims are included for: (1) a positive electrode in a lithium battery comprising an active matter containing (I); and (2) a lithium battery comprising the positive electrode; (3) preparation of (I) comprising forming a mixture of nickel oxide (NiO), manganese dioxide (MnO 2) or manganese tetroxide (Mn 3O 4) and a metal (M) oxide, crushing the mixture, heating the mixture to higher than 900[deg]C, adding a compound containing lithium to the mixture and heating mixture at 700-820[deg]C. |
