The method involves separating a main generator (14) of a wind energy plant from a main transformer (40) if an external mains supply (44) is not available. A load of the wind energy plant attached to an internal grid (46) is supplied with electricity from the main generator if wind velocity is sufficient for supply of sufficient electrical power by the main generator. The load of the wind energy plant is supplied with power from an energy storage (50) e.g. accumulator, if the wind velocity is not sufficient for supply of sufficient electrical power by the main generator. An independent claim is also included for a wind energy plant.
