A data recording/reproducing structure can be implemented, wherein both standard compliant data and standard non-compliant data for BD (Blu-ray Disc) standard, AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) standard, or the like can be used. In a process of recording data into a medium, when the recorded data is standard compliant data for BD standard, AVCHD standard, or the like, the management information of the data is recorded into a first management information file dedicated to the standard compliant data, and when the data is standard non-compliant data, the management information of the data is recorded into a second management information file. Further, a management information update process is performed in which all the management information which are recorded in the first management information file are recorded into the second management information file. An already-existing apparatus which performs only processing of the standard compliant data can perform the processing by applying the first management information and a new-type apparatus which is capable of performing processing of the standard non-compliant data can reproduce all the data by a process to which the second management information is applied.
