The code has two graphic symbols arranged adjacent to each other, where the symbol code is formed with two different symbols of identical area differing from each other in a planar brightness distribution. The symbols encode a value of a binary data word. The symbols comprise a complementary brightness distribution. The symbols consist of two regions, and a different brightness value is assigned to the regions. The symbols are differentiated with different colors, and a filter and the symbol code are formed together by an imaging method. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for reading a two-dimensional system code (2) a device for reading a two-dimensional system code, comprising an optical receiver.
