摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anode material improved for use in a rechargeable lithium battery. <P>SOLUTION: The anode material which is a transition metal nitride or carbide of a shape of nano particle, preferably nitride or carbide having one piece of nitrogen or carbon per metal, especially the nitride or the carbide having rock salt structure is used. The preferable anode material is vanadium nitride having the average particle diameter of less than 500 nm, especially carbon-covered vanadium nitride.
