摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a code symbol reader building a mechanism to return from a standby state to an operating state with an inexpensive configuration. <P>SOLUTION: When a variation between frames in a feature amount extracted from a multi-tone image signal outputted from an imaging device is determined to exceed a predetermined value (Yes in S5), illumination light is irradiated from an illuminator (S6), and, when the time period during which a code symbol is not read by a code symbol reader exceeds a predetermined time period that is set beforehand (Yes in S10), the irradiation of illumination light from the illuminator is stopped (S11). Thus, since the variation between frames in the feature amount extracted from the multi-tone image signal outputted from then imaging device just needs to exceed the predetermined value for recovery from a standby state to an operating state, then an operator just needs to stand facing the imaging device, so that a recovery mechanism from a standby state to an operating state can be built with an inexpensive configuration. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p>
