PROCESS OF PRODUCING ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process of stably producing an ultra lightweight aggregate with a specific gravity in an absolute dry condition of≤1.0 g/cm3. SOLUTION: The process of producing the ultra lightweight aggregate involve a firing step in which particles of an expanding material or expanding shale is fired in a rotary kiln while adding a fusion inhibitor. In this step a fusion inhibitor having an average particle size of 5-50μm is put into the flame of the burner of the rotary kiln, and the fine particles including the fusion inhibitor recovered from the waste gas from the rotary kiln are returned to the firing step.
