The present invention relates to a method for controlling a cooking apparatus. A method for controlling a cooking apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: oscillating microwaves supplied to a cooking compartment with a high-frequency heat source; and operating a steam generator for generating steam to be supplied to the cooking compartment. If a signal for initiating the operation of the steam generator is inputted before the high-frequency heat source begins operating, the operation of the steam generator is initiated at a preset time irrespective of when the high-frequency heat source begins operating. If the signal for initiating the operation of the steam generator is inputted after the high-frequency heat source begins operating, the operation of the steam generator is initiated at the time when the signal is inputted. Thus, according to the present invention, cooking food using steam can be made more efficient and safe.
