A method for providing electric energy by means of a fuel cell (12) comprises the following steps: - applying a burnable gas flow (60) to an anode (8) of the fuel cell (12); - applying an oxidator flow (50) to a cathode (4) of the fuel cell (12); - generating a burner waste gas flow (58) by means of a burner (22); - and applying the burner waste gas flow (58) to the cathode. A system (10) for providing electric energy comprises a fuel cell (12), which has an anode (8) and a cathode (4). The system (10) further comprises a burner (22) for generating a burner waste gas flow (58) and enables a burner waste gas flow (58) to be applied to the cathode.
