PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: in an electronic camera which images a subject and records the subject as a still image, when photography is performed under a condition that blurring correction is not required, an image size is reduced by performing pixel addition. SOLUTION: When an auto photography mode is set (S116;YES), in the case of predetermined set photographic conditions (S118;YES), an imaging device is driven in a normal reading mode for sequentially reading imaging signal charges of all pixels of the imaging device (S119). In addition, whether or not a blurring reduction photography mode or a sensitization photography mode is set is determined (S125;YES), in the case of the predetermined set photographic conditions (S118;NO), pixel addition magnification of the imaging device is calculated and exposure time is reset according to a photometric value obtained by photometric processing of S114 and the photographic conditions set in S109 (S127). Next, the imaging device is driven by switching a mode to a vertical and horizontal addition reading mode for adding and reading imaging signal charges of pixels in the same color in the vertical direction and the horizontal direction of the imaging device (S129).
