PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic disk having superior magnetic characteristics and reliability characteristics, despite the low floating height of a magnetic head accompanying rapid increase of recording density in recent years and very severe environment resistance required, accompanying the diversified uses. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the magnetic disk having at least a magnetic layer and a protective layer disposed on a substrate, the protective layer is deposited using a plasma CVD method, and a deposition condition of the protective layer is set, in such a way that the hydrogen content in the magnetic layer, as measured with a recoil molecular scattering method, becomes an allowable value, and the protective layer is formed based on the set deposition condition.
