PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head-mounted image display apparatus that is easily adjusted such that any image can be observed in an effective screen size within a visual field range by an observation optical unit in a mounted posture desired by an observer. SOLUTION: The head-mounted image display apparatus includes an ocular optical unit 26 and a display element 23 for displaying images, and allows image light of the image displayed by the display element 23 to go into an eyeball 30 through the ocular optical unit 26. The display element 23 includes a display region adjustment means that includes a displayable screen size 23a larger than a screen size corresponding to an effective screen size 35 that can be observed within the visual field range 26a by the ocular optical unit 26, and controls an address of a display region 35a corresponding to the effective screen size 35 of the display element 23 for adjusting the display region 35a by controlling an address of the display region 35a corresponding to the effective screen size 35 in the display element 23 by the display region adjustment means such that the image of the effective screen size 35 can be observed within the visual field range 26a by the ocular optical unit 26.
