PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor failure in both communication lines for every segment even when a full duplex Ethernet is used as a ring which connects nodes. SOLUTION: A second failure monitoring processing unit 13B of the node N returns BPDU (Ag) (Bridge Protocol Data Unit (Ag)) to an upstream node through a communication line Lb according to the reception of BPDU (Fd) from a root node, and monitors whether or not failure exists on the communication line Lb in a down-stream segment based on the normality of the BPDU (Ag) received through the communication line Lb from the down-stream node.
