<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To amplify signal light with lower power consumption by increasing the intensity of ASE (Amplified Spontaneous Emission) light. <P>SOLUTION: A semiconductor optical amplifier includes a semiconductor substrate, an optical waveguide having an active layer formed on the semiconductor substrate, and a wavelength selective reflection film which is formed on an end surface where the signal light is incident on the optical waveguide, and transmits the signal light and reflects light of wavelength other than the signal light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
