PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a metal material in which a desired portion of a metal base material is made into a metal with a desired composition, and the metal material produced by the method. SOLUTION: An additive 10 having a different composition from metal base materials 1a and 1b and developing a chemical reaction with the metal base materials 1a and 1b, is arranged in a stirring part 20 being a part of the metal base materials 1a and 1b, and is rotated, while a leading edge of a rod-shaped rotating tool 100 is contacted with the stirring part 20. Thereby, three processes for producing an alloy, such as dispersion, diffusion and deposition, or dispersion, diffusion and transformation of the additive 10 to a desired portion of the metal base materials 1a and 1b, are attained by one method using a technique of friction stir welding.
