<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new dithiocarbamate compound useful as a raw material of a polymer for optical materials, and to provide a simple method for producing the compound industrially inexpensively in a high yield. <P>SOLUTION: The dithiocarbamate compound is represented by formula (1), äwherein R represents an arylene group which may have a substituent, a plurality of the arylene groups may be bonded directly or via a hetero atom or a 1-10C hydrocarbon group (including hydrocarbon groups having a cyclic structure or a branched structure, and containing a hetero atom in a low hydrocarbon group); Z and Z' each independently represents N, NH or NR<SP>1</SP>; R<SP>1</SP>represents a 1-10C hydrocarbon group which may have a cyclic structure; and n and m each independently represents 1 or 2}.
