<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide backing paper for wallpaper which has slight fluffing in coating a polyvinyl chloride paste or the like or in the following drying step, and does not cause joint separation after application of wallpaper. <P>SOLUTION: The backing paper for wallpaper includes pulp fibers; specifically, the backing paper contains 5-25 mass% of synthetic fibers made from a thermoplastic synthetic resin, wherein the length and fineness of each of the synthetic fibers are not less than 1 and not more than 4 mm, and not less than 0.1 dtex and not more than 4.0 dtex, respectively.
