PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device and a method of imaging which image detailed images of all moving objects easily even when a plurality of moving objects exist. SOLUTION: The image pickup device includes a wide-angle imaging unit 1 provided with a wide-angle lens and an imaging element, a zoom imaging unit 2 having a lens with smaller field angle and higher magnification than the wide-angle lens and the imaging element, which is turnably provided, a moving object detection part 71 for detecting a moving object from a wide-angle image imaged through the wide-angle imaging unit 1, and an actuator control part 73 for turning the zoom imaging unit 2 such that entire range of imaging range of the wide-angle imaging unit 1 is imaged when number of moving objects existing in the wide-angle image is more than a predetermined number of the objects.
