Certain embodiments of the invention may include systems, methods, and apparatus for calibrating speakers for three dimensional acoustical reproduction. According to an example embodiment of the invention, a method is provided for initializing a plurality of speakers in a 3D acoustical reproduction system. The method can include positioning one or more calibration microphones near a listener position, generating calibration tones, selectively routing calibration tones to one or more of the plurality of speakers, producing audible tones from the plurality of speakers based on the generated calibration tones, sensing audible tones from the plurality of speakers with the one or more calibration microphones, determining one or more parameters associated with the plurality of speakers based on sensing the audible tones, and modifying settings of the 3D acoustical reproduction system based on the one or more determined parameters.
