The present invention relates to a latch assembly for a vehicle seat, comprising: a base having a groove for accommodating a striker of a vehicle body; a catch which rotates between a locking position for supporting the striker accommodated in said groove and an unlocking position for opening the striker released from said groove; a damping plate which is coupled to the base such that the damping plate is rotatable coaxially to the catch, and which has a damping surface for elastically pressing the catch to rotate the catch to the unlocking position and for elastically pressing and supporting the striker accommodated in said groove; a pawl plate which is rotatably coupled to the base, and which has a press surface for pressing the catch having rotated into the locking position; and a pawl which is coupled to the base such that the pawl is rotatable coaxially to the pawl plate, and which has a support surface for supporting the catch to prevent the catch from rotating again when the catch at the locking position overcomes the press surface of the pawl plate by the impact applied from an external source, and starts rotation. The thus-configured latch assembly of the present invention achieves improved safety and achieves smooth operation, operating convenience, less rattling noises, etc.
