PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device for achieving stable dimming lighting by restricting flicker, a lighting failure and a jump phenomenon when dimming even if the peripheral temperature lowers and for continuously performing smooth dimming with simple circuit structure. SOLUTION: A first frequency is set to adjust power to be input to a discharge lamp 10, and a second frequency is set to near a resonance frequency of a series resonance circuit formed of a ballast coil 8 and a resonance capacitor 9. A first frequency command signal and a second frequency command signal are separately output from an inverter control circuit 15, and the first frequency command signal is smoothed through a low pass filter 19a and the second frequency command signal rises through a low pass filter 19b to form a gentle inclination of a trailing edge.
