PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve surface roughness (Ra) of a flat part of a mold made of resin used for a nano imprinting method and to reduce defects of formation of a pattern of a magnetic recording medium so as to enhance the productivity. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing the mold made of resin used for manufacture of the magnetic recording medium having a magnetically separated magnetic recording pattern includes steps for transferring a rugged pattern of a master mold 20 to a curable resin material (Fig.(1c)); curing the resin material to which the rugged pattern is transferred (Fig.(1c)); peeling the cured resin material from the master mold 20 to form a mold 1 made of resin (Fig.(1d)); and irradiating the mold 1, made of resin with a radiation 4 to smooth a transfer surface 3 of the mold 1 made of resin (Fig.(1e)), wherein the energy of the radiation 4 with which the mold 1 made of resin is irradiated is made higher than the molecular bonding energy of an organic compound contained in a resin material 13.
