PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form the tip of a main magnetic pole into a MCS structure by processing from a stacking direction. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a thin-film magnetic head structure 1, which includes opposing floating surfaces 6 on the recording surface of a disk and in which the tip 11 of a main magnetic pole 10 is formed on the floating surface 6 includes a first slope forming step of forming two slopes 14, where a specific side inclined from the specific point 13A of the top 11 of the main magnetic pole 10 to the base end 12 of the main magnetic pole 10 in a deep direction Z is set as a common side 13 by oblique milling from a stacking direction X for stacking the main magnetic pole 10; and a second slope forming step of forming a second slope 16 inclined toward the tip of the main magnetic pole 10, with an optional point 15 on the common side 13 set as a vertex by the oblique milling from the stacking direction X, and the tip 11 is formed into a MCS structure by a triangular pyramid shape 17, where an optional point 15 on the first slope 14 and the second slope 16 is set as a vertex.
