The invention relates to a system for transferring a fluid such as liquefied natural gas and/or cold return vapour, between a first vessel (2) for storing the fluid and a second vessel (3) which are placed side by side during a transfer operation, the system being of the type comprising at least one flexible transfer pipe(4) which can be moved between a storage position on the first vessel and a transfer position in which it is connected to the connection devices (9, 18) associated with the manifolds of the two vessels. The system is characterized in that it comprises a device (12) for storing a plurality of pipes (4) which are arranged in the vicinity of the connection devices (9) of the first vessel, and individual devices (13, 15) for moving each pipe (4) between its storage and transfer positions. The invention can be used in the case of standard methane tankers.
