A presentation system comprise a database that stores a sequence of presentation items to be presented from the presentation server to a viewer computer system, the sequence including a first and second discrete and separate presentation items. The first presentation item corresponds to a first content of a first content type and the second presentation item corresponds to a second content of a second content type, the first content type being different from the second content type. A presentation output module establishes a presentation state and presents the first presentation item to the viewer computer system, responsive to the request from the script to receive the current presentation item. The presentation output module modifies the presentation state of the presentation and presents the second presentation item to the viewer computer system, responsive to the further request from the script to receive the current presentation item.
