PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact gas-blast circuit breaker with a high heat-utilization efficiency and a high performance, capable of efficiently bringing a hot gas into a puffer chamber and blasting gas on an arc in the vicinity of zero current in a breaking process of a gas-blast circuit breaker. SOLUTION: The gas-blast circuit breaker is provided with a check valve communicating, by a switching work, between a hollow part S of a movable arc contact 3 and a puffer chamber 9 in the vicinity of a connecting part with an operation rod 7 which is a hollow part S of the movable arc contact 3, or at the hollow part S of the operation rod 7 connected with an end part of the movable arc contact 3. The check valve 8 is opened only in a direction to the puffer chamber 9 from the hollow part S of the operation rod 7 and has a function to shut down the gas in a reversed direction.
