PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for the rotation drive of a bit which can reliably position the bit without causing defects on a workpiece and can perform a switching operation for the rotation and stop of the bit without the need to take any improper posture with the hand twisted. SOLUTION: One embodiment of the apparatus for the rotation drive of the bit comprises an arm movable in a three-dimensional direction, an electric power tool for the rotation drive of the bit which is held on the arm, and a rotatable sleeve mounted to the outer periphery of the electric power tool for the rotation drive of the bit. A handy switch for operating the rotation/stop of the bit is provided on the outer surface of the sleeve. Another embodiment comprises an electric power tool for the rotation drive of the bit which is coupled with a rotation shaft of a rotation shaft component provided on an arm movable in a three-dimensional direction, and a lock/unlock mechanism that fixes and releases the rotation of the rotation shaft component. A handy switch which operates the mechanism and the bit is provided on the outer surface of the electric power tool for the rotation drive of the bit or the rotation shaft component.
