The load carrier comprises a frame which is projected before a rear area of a motor vehicle in a transport position of the load carrier. The supporting elements (7) are pivotally attached with two longitudinal elements that are connected with a front crossbar for enlarging a cargo area of the load carrier. Each longitudinal element is formed from a longitudinal spar (2). The supporting element is made of a plastic material, where the frame is made of aluminum.
