PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate image information including information for forming another black image over a certain image when a color of image represented by image information cannot be represented with a color space defined by a color of colorant. SOLUTION: Color information of each of pixels includes information relating to a "background image" representing a back ground and information relating to an "overlapped drawing image" formed over the background image. As the information relating to the background image, each item of color information is described by an RGB color space in a B region, a G region and an R region. The information relating to the overlapped drawing image is provided for designating the amount of black colorant, an overlapped drawing flag indicative of whether to form the overlapped drawing image is described in a flag region TB, and density information representing a density of the overlapped drawing image is described in a density region TC. On the basis of the descriptions in the B region, the G region and the R region, the color of the background image is specified and on the basis of description contents in the flag region TB and the density region TC, the amount of black colorant is determined.
