Disclosed is a raw roll which is a roll of optical film on which defect information is printed as markings and produces fewer defects due to transfer of the irregular deformation in the marking regions. The raw roll is formed by rolling a long sheet of optical film including a polarizer. One or more markings are formed in the position corresponding to a defective region. The optical density of the markings is 1.5 or more. The thickness of the central part of each marking is 1.5 µm or less. It is preferable that the optical density per unit thickness of each marking is 2.5 µm-1 or more.
