Cracking a hydrocarbon-containing feed into short-chain hydrocarbons in a system (olefin system) for producing hydrocarbons, comprises: introducing the hydrocarbon-containing feed into cracking tubes of a cracking furnace (1); and thermally cracking the long-chain hydrocarbon feed into short-chain hydrocarbons, where the cracking furnace is heated by the combustion of a heating medium (2) with oxygen-enriched air (3). An independent claim is also included for a system for producing the hydrocarbons by cracking a hydrocarbon-containing feed in a cracking furnace, where the cracking furnace exhibits at least one cracking tube for conducting the hydrocarbon-containing feed through the combustion chamber of the cracking furnace, at least one device for introducing or discharging the hydrocarbon-containing feed into the cracking tubes, at least one device for introducing the heating medium, and at least one device for introducing an oxygen-containing gas, where the device for introducing the oxygen-containing gas is connected with a source of oxygen-enriched air.
