<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which quickly responds to an information acquisition command transmitted from a host device, or the like. <P>SOLUTION: A CPU 102 receives command data transmitted from the host device through an interface 109. When the command data are a printing command, a printing head 105 prints a character or figure specified by the printing command. When the command data are the information acquisition command, the CPU 102 obtains a parameter specified by the information acquisition command. When the equipment information of the printer 101 previously associated with the obtained parameter exists, the CPU 102 obtains the equipment information from a ROM 103, a flash EEPROM 106, etc. and transmits the equipment information to the host device through the interface 109.
