PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform the formation of an image printed on a medium, as a reflected image or as a transmitted image, in a switching system. SOLUTION: This device has a head for discharging an ink drop from a nozzle, and prints the image on the medium based on a selected mode, and is a printer, wherein the medium is a transparent medium, and when selecting a first mode, the head prints a first image on the medium, and prints a first background image on the first image, and prints a second image different from the first image on the first background image, and when selecting a second mode, the head prints the first image on the medium, and prints a second background image higher in the transmission concentration than the first background image on the first image, and prints the second image on the second background image.
