PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize brightness difference between the light emitting parts of a plurality of liquid storage containers, to cause the light emitting parts to appropriately exhibit a function as an informing means and, at the same time, to minimize driving power for the corresponding light emitting parts. SOLUTION: In a method for controlling a light emitting part for a liquid storage container, when light is emitted from the light emitting parts 142K, 142C, 142M, and 142Y provided for a plurality of ink tanks, drive pulses for the corresponding light emitting parts 142K, 142C, 142M, and 142Y are modulated, thereby controlling the proportion of a light emission period per unit time to a light emission quiescent period per unit time.
