PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional vertical shaft pump that the slide faces of both ring members are on a cylindrical face coaxial with the main shaft and therefore it is impossible to correct the gap between an impeller and a casing and recover pump efficiency without disassembling the pump, although there is a strong need to reduce a pump disassembling frequency. SOLUTION: In this vertical shaft pump 1, the slide faces 27, 28 of an impeller 21 and a casing 13 are provided on a conical face with the center of the main shaft 15 as a shaft, and a rotating body 24 is moved in an axial direction. Therefore, the gap X between the impeller 21 and the casing 13 is made adjustable, so as to adjust the gap X between the impeller 21 and the casing 13 without withdrawing the rotating body 24 from the casing 13, reducing the pump disassembling frequency.
