<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for mediating commercial transaction and an information providing device having an index indicating a purchaser's purchase motivation in commercial transactions through a network. <P>SOLUTION: The system of intermediation includes a plurality of first user terminals desiring acquisition of information regarding predetermined goods or services, a plurality of second user terminals providing information regarding the goods or services, an intermediary device which intermediates information exchange between the first user terminals and the second user terminals, and the network interconnecting the terminals and the intermediary device. The intermediary device, according to the purchase index and retrieval conditions from the second user terminals, chooses the mostly suitable first user terminal from the plurality of first user terminals.
