Gas reservoir for storing and releasing a predetermined amount of gas for medical application, comprising an adsorbent on which the predetermined amount of gas is adsorbed at room temperature, includes water adsorbed on the adsorbent. Independent claims are also included for: (1) use of a gas reservoir comprising an adsorbent on which the predetermined amount of gas is adsorbed at room temperature, where the adsorbed gas is steam-sterilized and can be released by desorption, for medical application of the released gas; (2) production of a gas reservoir for storing and releasing a predetermined amount of gas for medical application by heating an adsorbent to remove impurities and activate the adsorbent, adsorbing the gas on the adsorbent, adding water, sealing the adsorbent in a gastight container, and sterilizing the gas and adsorbent by heating the container to at least 121[deg]C; (3) gas reservoir (GR1) for storing and releasing a predetermined amount of gas, comprising an adsorbent on which adsorbate components comprising the gas an impurities is adsorbed at room temperature, where the adsorbent is impregnated with a liquid having differential solubility for the gas and impurities so that poorly soluble components will be desorbed before soluble components; (4) production of GR1 by adsorbing the gas and impurities on the adsorbent, impregnating the adsorbent with the liquid and sealing the adsorbent in a gastight container.
