Driver assist system for warning against obstacles

The system has a sensor (20) detecting a vehicle surrounding field (18), and an evaluation mechanism (22) evaluating data of the sensor. The evaluation mechanism generates a reference value based on the data of the sensor, and compares the reference value with instantaneous value for obstacle detection. A warning apparatus (23) delivers a warning when the instantaneous value deviates from the reference value. The reference value is generated before departure of a vehicle (1) when a certain behavior of a driver (14) is detected by a behavior device (24) e.g. switching device.
