<p>The method involves removing filter material strips (4, 4') from a reservoir, and conveying the material strips through an application device (12). The material strips are supplied to a format device (23) of a filter rod machine, and a filter rod (24) is formed by the material strips. A surface defect in the filter rod is detected by a sensor (39) after the straining of the material strips, and a signal is generated for stopping further processing of an area of the filter rod having the surface defect, where the sensor has a drum with a metallic surface. An independent claim is also included for a filter rod machine for a tobacco processing industry.</p> |
