A machine (1) for handling sheet plates comprising at least one storing bay (6) for sheet plates arranged on a first level, a release bay (15) arranged on a second level, an exit area (20) arranged on a third level, wherein the storing bay (6), the release bay (15) and the exit area (20) are vertically piled up and wherein each of the aforesaid bays houses a pallet (7) for sheet plates, and a lifting system (3) comprising an elevator (40) movable vertically between the aforesaid first, second and third level and provided with a handling system (41) for said pallet configured for driving the pallet out of and into the storing bay, respectively, supporting the pallet and driving the pallet into and out of the release bay, respectively, and a handling system (60) for sheet plates configured for extracting one sheet plate at a time from the release bay (15), supporting said one sheet plate and driving it into the exit area (20), said handling systems for the pallet (41) and for the sheet plate (60) being both integrated into the aforesaid elevator (40).
