Production of a solid surface-modified with aminoalkylsilyl groups (I) involves reacting a solid with surface hydroxyl (OH) groups with a cyclic silazane (II). Production of a solid surface-modified with aminoalkylsilyl groups of formula (I) involves reacting a solid with surface hydroxyl (OH) groups with a cyclic silazane of formula (II): -Si(R<1>)2RNH2 (I) R = a divalent, N-C and C-Si-bound, 3-15 carbon (C) hydrocarbon group, optionally substituted by cyano (CN) or halogen, in which 1 or more non-adjacent methylene units may be replaced by -O-, -CO-, -COO-, -OCO-, -OCOO-, -S- or -NRx and 1 or more non-adjacent methine units may be replaced by -N=, -N=N- or -P=, such that there are 3-6 C atoms between the Si and N atoms of the ring; Rx = hydrogen (H) or 1-10 C hydrocarbyl, optionally substituted by CN or halogen; R<1> = H or a monovalent, Si-C-bound, 1-20 C hydrocarbyl or 1-15 C hydrocarbyloxy group, optionally substituted by CN, -NCO, -NRx2, -COOH, -COORx, halogen, acrylyl, epoxy, -SH, -OH or -CONRx2, in which 1 or more non-adjacent methylene units may be replaced by -O-, -CO-, -COO-, -OCO-, -OCOO-, -S- or -NRx and 1 or more non-adjacent methine units may be replaced by -N=, -N=N- or -P=. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Production of a solid surface-modified with aminoalkylsilyl groups of formula (I) by reacting a solid with surface hydroxyl (OH) groups with an amino-functional organosiloxane of formula (V), which is obtained by reacting an organosiloxane of formula (VI) with (II): (2) Surface-modified metal oxide produced by these processes.
