PURPOSE: Applicator structures are provided to generate several field modes by setting the delay between applicator arms into λ/4 and using an open-loop delay line. CONSTITUTION: An electric bulb includes a filling mixture in order to emit light when the electric bulb is excited by microwave energy. At least two applicator arms, which are combined to each other through an open-loop structure, combine the microwave energy with the filling mixture. The applicator arms are separated by at least one delay line. At least one delay line induces a λ/4. The λ is the wavelength of the microwave energy.
