Disclosed is a method of removing harmful substances whereby harmful substances such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and particulate substances are removed from an exhaust gas from an internal-combustion engine or an incinerator without using a rare metal-based catalyst. A method of removing harmful substances which comprises: a primary step (B) wherein an exhaust gas from an internal-combustion engine or an incinerator (A) is released into a liquid (S), which contains microorganisms comprising microbial cells at least including a photosynthetic bacterium, microorganisms comprising microbial cells including a yeast and microorganisms comprising microbial cells including a lactic acid bacterium, and thus carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and particulate substances in the gas are removed; a residual harmful substance-removing step (C) wherein particulate substances are further taken out and removed; a secondary step (D) wherein the treated matter is contacted with a calcined product (L), which contains microorganisms comprising microbial cells at least including a photosynthetic bacterium, microorganisms comprising microbial cells including a yeast and microorganisms comprising microbial cells including a lactic acid bacterium, and thus carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the gas are further removed; and a deodorizing step (E) wherein the gas is deodorized with a deodorization means (M).
|
