PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel economy while ensuring brake vacuum in the master back of a vehicle. SOLUTION: An intake system with respect to each of banks 1L, 1R of a V-type internal combustion engine 1 is independently disposed. When the brake vacuum in the master back 9 is lowered to less than a predetermined value, the increased lift of an intake valve 105 on one bank 1R is maintained by a variable lift mechanism 102, intake vacuum is increased by throttle control of an electronic throttle 5R and introduced to the vacuum chamber 9a of the master back 9 through a vacuum pipe 8 to ensure brake vacuum. On the other bank 1L, the large opening of the electronic throttle 5R is maintained, and the lift of the intake valve 105 is variably controlled by the variable lift mechanism 102.
