PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent tight winding of a roll caused when unwinding of a roll-shaped sheet material is stopped. SOLUTION: In this device 100 for winding off the sheet material 6, a support shaft 3 for supporting a roll 2 formed by winding the sheet material 2 around a roll core 1 is rotated, and the sheet material 6 is unwound from the roll core 1. At the time, tension in the unwinding direction is applied to the sheet material 6 by a tension generation part 5. When the unwinding of the sheet material 6 is stopped, the movement of the sheet material 6 is stopped with the sheet material 6 sandwiched between a first pressing part 11 and a first stage 14 to be traveling control means, and thereafter the rotation of the support shaft 3 is stopped to stop the rotation of the roll 2. As a result, the tension applied to the sheet material 6 by the tension generation part 5 exerts no influence on the roll 2 when the unwinding of the sheet material 6 is stopped.
