Disclosed is a plasma separation apparatus which can separate plasma from a trace amount of a whole blood sample without requiring centrifugation. The apparatus comprises: a blood flow path through which blood can flow; and a plasma flow path which is arranged at least partly in parallel with the blood flow path and through which plasma separated from the blood can flow. The blood flow path and the plasma flow path are brought into contact with each other at least partly along the length direction of the flow paths, and allows the blood to flow through the flow paths at such a flow rate that blood cell components in the blood can be concentrated in the axial direction and hemolysis does not occur. After the blood is separated into a blood cell layer and a plasma layer, the plasma layer moves to the plasma flow path.
