PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element for displaying four or more colors compared with the case of not containing a dielectric additive so that the dielectric constants of a first liquid crystal layer and a second liquid crystal layer may be different. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element includes: a first substrate 12 provided with a first electrode 16A on one surface; a transparent second substrate 15 provided with a transparent second electrode 16B on one surface and arranged facing the first substrate 12 so that the second electrode 16B may face the first electrode 16A; the first liquid crystal layer 20A containing a liquid crystal composition; a color filter 21 formed more on the side of the second substrate 15 than the first liquid crystal layer 20A; and the second liquid crystal layer 20B formed more on the side of the second substrate 15 than the color filer 21 in a region held between the first substrate 12 and the second substrate 15 and containing the liquid crystal composition. In at least one of the first liquid crystal layer 20A and the second liquid crystal layer 20B, the dielectric additive is contained so that the dielectric constants of the first liquid crystal layer 20A and the second liquid crystal layer 20B may be different.
