PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide aluminum alloy for an automotive body which has excellent formability, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The aluminum alloy for an automotive body having excellent formability contains, by mass, ≥0.2% Mg, ≥0.3% Si, 0.9 to 1.5% Cu, ≤2% (Mg+Si), and the balance Al with inevitable impurities, wherein the total of a work hardening index n<SB>1</SB>from 5% to 10% and a work hardening index n<SB>2</SB>of from 10% to 15% is ≥0.61.
