PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that size of one side of a spatial phase modulation element becomes larger in accordance with channel increase, however, size increase of the spatial phase modulation element is not preferable from the viewpoint of mass productivity and manufacuturing costs, and when a variable dispersion compensator is constituted by using the spatial phase modulation element, light transmission falls off in an optical frequency (wavelength) corresponding to an edge of an FSR of an AWG, with respect to a variable dispersion compensator which performs dispersion compensation independently of each channel using the spatial phase modulation element.
SOLUTION: The multichannel variable dispersion compensator is constituted by combining a plurality of tunable optical dispersion compensator (TODC) blocks using the spatial phase modulation element in which the size in the direction corresponding to a spectacle axis of the AWG is suppressed as short. The FSR of the AWG is set so as to satisfy predetermined relation with all bandwidths of a WDM communication channel group to be covered by TODC blocks to flatten optical transmission characteristics by combining TODC blocks including an interleaver and a second group branching filter (TFF). Channels are efficiently assigned to cells of LCOS.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
