<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can suppress light leakage on the long wavelength side of visible light during dark display without addition of new members by using simple means, is superior in contrast and hue and has wide viewing angle characteristics; and to provide a composite polarizing plate useful for the liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: A composite polarizing plate 17 with an adhesive layer is provided, wherein a retardation plate 20 is stuck to one surface of a polarizing plate 10 including a polarizer 12 comprising a polyvinyl alcohol resin film and an adhesive layer 30 containing a pigment showing maximum absorption at a wavelength region of 650 to 950 nm is provided on the surface opposite to the polarizer 12 of the retardation plate 20. The composite polarizing plate 17 with the adhesive layer is stuck to one side of a liquid crystal cell 40 at the side of the adhesive layer 30, and the same type or different type of polarizing pate 11 is disposed on a side opposite to the liquid crystal cell 40, and a backlight 50 is disposed on the outside of one polarizing plate, whereby a liquid crystal display device is constituted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
